Animal feed lose up to 1.5% moisture during processing which means:
15 kg for each ton
in feed mill producing 10000ton/month
= 150ton lost/month! , so moisture management is vital

Preconditioning feed by adding water alone into feed is not effective because water has a strong surface tension preventing it from effectively penetrating through the feed particles and this will increase water activity

Water activity describes how much of that water is free and therefore available to microorganisms for growth making it the most important factor for controlling spoilage
